frustration
We got a new toy. I was very excited about having a camcorder and being able to store the stuff on my computer. But I can't get it to DO anything with the computer. I feel like the absolute biggest moron ever. There are all the instructions about how to connect the camera to the computer and get it set up, and how to view your saved pictures and movies (it takes still digital pictures, too) but no instructions on how to save the video to the hard drive. I'm sad. And if I can't figure it out, I'll be sending it back. I didn't get the camera to have piles of tapes laying around. I want the stuff on my computer.

Usually you use your video editing program to get the data off the tape. The tape is digital, but not in an easily readable format(ie you cannot hook it up to USB like you can a memory card). What I did when I did my video editing project(using a similiar camera, but it belonged to the school) was I used iMovie(yay macs!) and hit the record button on the software and played the video on the camera. It has to play through the thing to record it, but if you leave it go it should work fine.
There should be some equivalent of iMovie for Windows....

Thanks for the suggestion. Matt did find a program on his computer that apparently comes with XP but not Win98. So for the time being he gets to be Mr. Movie Editor and the camera gets to stay.
