Pansy brings up a great topic over at Two Sleepy Mommies today
Yes, I know the title of the post is "Yeah, I'm Shallow" but that isn't what is "great" about it. The great topic of the post is women's clothing. I've been meaning to blog about this topic for a while now and I just haven't gotten around to it, so I'd like to now piggyback off of Pansy and tell you what I think.
Pansy's commenting on pants has to do with postpartem belly. Those of you who know me know that I don't share this problem. I do, however, like to wear clothes that fit and stay on my body. I find it thoroughly impossible to buy pants. I am a tiny person and it is impossible to buy pants that fit properly. There are two major areas which present great difficulty for me.
Length: If I buy petite pants, when I sit everyone sees my socks because my legs are just long enough that they're too long for petite pants. But if I buy regular pants I have to wear shoes all the time or I trip over the ends of my pants. And I hate shoes.
Waistline: I have hips. I mean, I know everyone has hips, but my hips are a feature that I think stands out a little bit more than certain other features of mine. Sometimes, I try on a pair of pants that fit my hips, but the waistline is far too large and I feel like I can look down at myself and see straight through my pants to the floor. I really just need to buy pants that are made out of stretchier material. I've fallen in love with jeans from New York & Company because they stretch enough that I can get my hips into them but I can't see the floor through my pants when I look down at my waist. And they're great because they really sit AT my waist. Not in that not-so-wonderful place just under your belly where if you've got a belly it would stick out and look less attractive. My final waistline issue has to do with the way pants readjust themselves when I sit down. Particularly when it comes to those pants that sit at your hips instead of your waist. I feel like I'm constantly checking and readjusting to make sure that nobody can see my unmentionables. WHY is it so hard to make pants that someone can wear with a decent pair of underwear???? I mean, for now, while I can get away with it, I'd like to wear some of those pants that sit at the hip because they don't look too awfully bad on me when I'm standing. But if I sit, I feel like the world will get a full view of what's underneath them. So much for modesty. Somebody needs to design a decent pair of women's pants. Maybe when the Olsen Twins grow up they'll figure out how. (I watched a fashion thing on E! today about them and apparently they're far more interested in fashion design than acting these days)

I'd like to thank the authors of Catholic Ragemonkey for the link to the quiz below. I just discovered their blog by way of the Two Sleepy Mommies and Fr. Johansen.
I may have to start a new category in the sidebar for Catholic Blogs. Or maybe I could just put one great big link to St. Blogs
